After a decadent late start complete with egg & bacon sarnies in the sun on our deck chairs, we set off to explore more of the Otago peninsula. Having reshuffled the plans around, we decided this would be our only day there so we were keen to see some of it's highlights. We visited Victory beach where we were able to see a wild fur seal sunbathing of the beach :-) and then headed up to the Royal Albatross Centre where we were rewarded with the perfect strength winds to see them in flight.

If anyone is interested, there is actually a free live camera everyone can stream from the link below. This celebrity pair are expecting their egg to hatch on the 2nd of Feb, where it will take approx 8 months for the fluff ball to take it's first flight which will result in the juvenile not touching land for up 4-5 YEARS. This species (Northern Royal Albatross) reach wingspans of up to 3.5metres, and can dynamic soar up to 120km/h so pretty cool.

We stayed in a lovely spot in Roxburgh East that night, on route to the west coast. We could have easily stayed here longer as it looks like it has a great cycling route along the river linking historic towns but alas, one can't do it all.
